Pre & Post-Care for Semi-Permanent Makeup
For your semi-permanent makeup treatment to heal beautifully and last as long as possible, it’s crucial to follow these pre and post-care instructions carefully. Failure to do so can lead to poor pigment retention, uneven healing, or even infection. Please read this thoroughly before your appointment with Emily at The Brow Haus & Co.
Pre-Treatment: How to Prepare for Your Appointment
To achieve optimal results, your skin needs to be in its best possible condition. Follow these essential pre-care steps:
Avoid invasive facial treatments (such as laser, chemical peels, microneedling, or surgery) for at least 3–6 months before your appointment. Stop using Retinol, Vitamin A, and strong exfoliants at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Do not tint or wax your brows within 2 weeks of your appointment.
Stop taking fish oils and omega-3 supplements, as they can thin the blood and affect healing. 48 Hours Before Treatment: With your GP’s consent, avoid any blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen).
Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can increase bleeding and pigment loss. Do not take ibuprofen or paracetamol, as they can increase bruising
Arrive with a clean face – no makeup or skincare on the brow area. Do not exercise for at least 3 hours before your appointment (sweat can push pigment out). Avoid smoking or vaping, as this affects blood circulation and healing.
If you have any questions about your eligibility for treatment, please reach out before your appointment.
Why Do These Pre-Care Steps Matter?
These guidelines ensure your skin is in the best condition to absorb pigment properly. Factors such as alcohol, caffeine, medications, and recent skin treatments can cause excessive bleeding, delayed healing, or poor pigment retention, leading to disappointing results.
What will happen if I dont follow these steps?
If you don't follow these steps, you risk poor results and an increased chance of infection. The blades and needles used in your treatment are single-use, and all products are sealed, with surfaces sanitized using medical-grade disinfectant before use. Proper aftercare is essential—don’t waste your investment by neglecting it. If you can’t commit to the aftercare, you may not achieve the desired outcome
Post-Treatment: How to Care for Your Brows After Your Appointment
Your brows will take around 14 days to heal, and proper aftercare is essential to protect your investment.
The First 10 Days – What to Expect & How to Care for Your Brows: 💡 Emily will provide you with a full aftercare kit, including balm, cleansing pads, and shower visors.
• Gently wipe your brows 6 times throughout the day using the provided pads. Apply the healing balm 6 times to keep the brows nourished. Wear the protective Phi-Patch overnight to prevent infection and reduce lymph buildup.
• Wipe your brows 4 times throughout the day. Apply the healing balm as directed.
Apply balm morning and night for the next 10 days. Keep your brows completely dry (use shower visors to protect them while washing your face). Avoid sweating, swimming, saunas, and steam rooms – sweat can push out pigment and lead to uneven healing.
What to Avoid During the Healing Process:
❌ No makeup or skincare products on the treated area for 14 days. ❌ Avoid direct sun exposure and sunbeds for 2 weeks before and after treatment. ❌ Do not pick, scratch, or rub your brows – this can lead to patchy healing or scarring.
Your brows will go through several stages of healing – they may appear darker at first, then scab or flake before settling into their final colour.
What Happens If You Don’t Follow These Instructions?
Failing to follow these steps can result in: ⚠ Poor pigment retention, leading to uneven brows or premature fading. ⚠ Increased risk of infection due to bacteria entering the healing area. ⚠ Longer healing time, causing unnecessary discomfort and poor results. At The Brow Haus & Co, we use sterile, single-use tools and medical-grade disinfectants, but your aftercare routine is just as important as the treatment itself.
